Day Camp Ideas for Kids

As a parent, during the summer months when school is out, I want to keep my kid engaged scholastically.

I have found day camps are a wonderful way to do this. Here's what happens:

Without sounding too proud of a parent, my daughter is a near genius.

But that is a gift and a problem at the same time. Because she's a genius, her brain needs additional coaching and encouragement.

I am not a genius by any stretch of the imagination.

But that doesn't keep me from wanting the best for my kid. And day camps offer the opportunity for my daughter to be surrounded by like-minded kids. By teachers who have the specific experience and training, and most important inspire and encourage kids to in the one area which the kids naturally want to spend their time on.

For instance, there is a day camp. It's for aspiring rock stars. Can you believe it?

In camp they work in a music studio, the perform, they practice, they are trained by top rock musicians.

Now you tell me. If you had a musically gifted kid, you tell me they wouldn't want to spend every waking minute at that camp!

Or let's say your daughter has a thing for cats. How cool would it be for your daughter to intern at a zoo in the big cat area? They have such things you know. You just have to inquire.

Or let's say your son is into marine biology. He wants to grow up and solve the world's climate change problems or work on a sea water desalinization project. They have day camps for that, where you go out on boats and do all sorts testing and research. Sure, a lot of it is "grunt work." But it's the kind of grunt your kid would love. It's ten times better than a summer job at McDonald's. No pun intended, but they would eat it up. And their heart would be so lifted and I bet they couldn't wait to come home and tell you how they organized test tubes of salt water.

Or let's say your son or daughter has a thing for dinosaurs. Do you know there are day camps where they help dig up fossils?

Yep.

The point is, while supposedly summer vacation is designed for taking a break, the key is to let the kid focus on doing something they love and encouraging exploration.
