How Do You Stop Your Kitten From Sleeping On Your Furniture?

Well, let's see; kittens shed a lot of hair, they scratch, they get on top of everything, and do a lot of things you just don't want them to do. Cats are also known to burrow, they dig, they claw, and they leave hair all over your furniture and everywhere else.

There is a simple answer to this problem. Don't let them get on the furniture when they first come home. Don't let them near your living room. Make sure that you have boundaries set in your home. Kittens will respect these boundaries and won't go near your living room.

You can create a cat friendly area. This is an area where your cat is supposed to be, create this space and your kitten will listen to you. Their area might be designated as; only in the back, or an enclosed back porch, or they may have their own little chair, table or area where they are welcome and feel totally at home. Also, make sure that the kitty litter is right there, near the kitten/cat friendly area, and they will always know where to go.

Also, if you have a door you can close, where you can see out and the cat can see in, but can't come in, this will help to define the cat friendly areas. Distance your cat away from your living room and areas you don't want your cat, or maybe you can cover your furniture until they are trained to stay out of the restricted areas and off the furniture.

There is one basic thing I can suggest. Tell your cat no. No - don't get on my furniture, no - don't do that, no - get down, the more you do this the more they will listen. From the time they are born, or when you first bring your kitten home make sure they do not get on your furniture.

Don't hold the kitten and then put them down on the furniture, put them on the floor, or in their basket. Remember kittens are babies, they will notice everything and they are paying attention. Kittens are just like children, they soaks up everything you do, just like a sponge. This will hold true for any of your actions, if you are aggressive, or mean, or even playful, your kitten will act like you, just like your children react to your moods.

So, if you don't want them on your furniture, don't put them on your furniture when they are kittens or when you first bring them home, don't let them on your furniture, and remember NO goes a long way in training your kitten.
