Businesses who want to maintain a professional image should ensure that they have a paper shredding device or find paper shredding services who offers this service. It should be well documented to customers that the documents are shredded. This can easily be done by having a secretary in the front office running the shredder in front of customers waiting in the lobby. If they hire an outside service to shred their paperwork, they should have the company park their marked vehicle out front during business hours. This will show them that the business cares about their privacy and respects their information. This is not only an issue to gain the respect of your customers it is actually a legal issue. If paperwork is simply thrown in the rubbish, it is anyone's guess as to who might get a hold of it. Unfortunately, if someone does get a hold of the private paperwork, they likely do not have the intention of going home and shredding it themselves to protect the customer from possible thieves. They are likely professional identity thieves themselves, and plan to search up and down each document in hopes of finding enough information on at least one person to cause a wide array of problems.
When a business shreds their paperwork or hires paper shredding services to do so, none of these issues could possibly occur, assuming someone does not get behind the desk and steal the paperwork preparing to hit the shredder. Shredding is a very easy task, as the operator will simply insert a document and watch the blades cut the paper into micro sized strips. It basically looks like when kids cut small strips of paper to make a montage, only this has a lot more importance. Each year thousands of people have their identity stolen and it is a major issue. This can cause a ton of harm to their credit score, as well as put them under an emotional roller coaster. They are too busy worrying about working to have to baby sit a company who simply threw their social security number or credit card number in the rubbish. They have full rights to sue the company if they believe that their identity was stolen off of the paperwork that the company possessed and failed to properly dispose of. Businesses would be foolish in today's world to not have a shredder or hire a shredding service. They are in business to make a profit, therefore buying a shredder, which is relatively inexpensive, surely beats being sued for everything the business possesses.
