Well, Egyptian cotton bed sheets are made by Egyptian cotton. Duh? What is new in this? So let me tell you what they really mean when they say Egyptian cotton. Well to start, Egyptian cotton comes from Egypt. Okay let us are more particular so that it becomes interesting to you. The land alongside the river Nile has black in rich soil which is the best soil for growing cotton. The humid climate on the banks is the optimum climate condition for cotton growth. Therefore the cotton grown here is naturally of best quality. The cotton grown in the Nile river valley has long fibers and hence is classified as extra long staples or ELS. Due to their long length, they are spun into very long and fine yarn. This yarn is then used to make Egyptian cotton bed sheets.

There is a reason that Egyptian cotton bed sheets are considered luxurious. The Egyptian cotton is soft and feels lustrous in touch. Even though it is very soft, yet it is very strong and durable. Also it has excellent water absorbing properties. It absorbs very quickly and hence is the ideal fabric to be used for making bath robes ant bath towels. The bathrobes and bath towels made of Egyptian cotton not only absorb water quickly but are very soft in touch too.

Authentic Egyptian cotton comes from Egypt only because the cotton that will be grown at anywhere else, then it would not get rich Egyptian soil and humid climate and hence would not be of excellent quality. Therefore to protect its reputation of providing luxurious cotton, Egypt has made a logo which is found on the products made from 100% Egyptian cotton only. The logo has a cotton plant inside a black triangle which represents the pyramids which is another thing Egypt is famous for.

To judge the quality of an Egyptian cotton bed sheet, start with checking the percentage of Egyptian cotton first. See that it is 100% Egyptian cotton. Then only it will be good. Next check will be the thread count. Thread count is the number of thread by square inch of area. Higher the thread count, better the fabric. It is because higher thread count means fine weave and hence strong and durable fabric. Egyptian cotton bed sheets are easily washable and they grow softer and cuddlier with each wash. This is another quality of Egyptian cotton bed sheets. Also these are made from the natural fibre, that is cotton, they are good for your skin too.
