Yes, it's possible. Many people are doing it successfully.

But many, many more people are losing weight faster by taking up exercise for weight loss.

Losing weight is not rocket science. It's all about a way of thinking in order to reach an objective. It's about setting personal goals and going after them. It's about the satisfaction of not only losing unwanted pounds, but also of reaching a personal target.

So how can a person lose weight without spending a large amount of time exercising?

Most people with a weight problem are aware of the need to eat a low-calorie diet free from fats, salt and excessive amounts of sugar. They also know that regular physical exercise is necessary to get rid of unwanted calories and fat. By 'exercise' these people may be involved in nothing more than a walk in the park, or a jog around the block.

But for some people with a weight problem, a daily period allocated solely to exercise isn't possible. The problem for them is one of time - they just don't have the time to exercise.

Today, many people are 'time-poor'. They cannot devote the time to a regular, daily period of physical activity. However much they would like to take a walk or a jog, family and work pressures don't allow. But there are ways in which they can increase their activity level without devoting an hour or so to exercise.

During the course of the day, we engage in a variety of physical activities. Walking around the home or the work place involves 'exercise'. Every physical exertion is exercise and prolonging that activity results in more exercise. So all a person has to do is consider ways in which activity can be extended.

Spend an extra ten minutes taking the dog for a walk; park the car as far away from work as possible; use the stairs instead of the elevator; get off the bus a stop earlier and walk the rest of the way; walk to work; take a stroll at lunch time; there's a multitude of ways of extending a period of activity, without devoting a length of time specifically to the task.

For those people who have no time constraints such as seniors, then lack of time may not be a limitation on their exercise activities. These people are able to enjoy their exercise time as well as the additional benefits, other than weight loss, that this brings. Being physically fit goes a long way towards giving an older person a much more vigorous and rewarding life style.

Weight loss and obesity prevention can be achieved without the need of spending an hour or so each day devoted to exercise. By extending the amount of time spent on everyday activities, the extra exercise incurred will offset the lack of a regular

exercise plan. Calorie control then, plays an important role in weight management.
