Parrot cages should always be warm and welcoming. Stop yourself from choosing a small and pretty cage, and think of choosing one that is large enough to allow the parrot to spread his wings to their fullest wing span.
A parrot's head and tail should not touch the top or bottom of his cage. If it is large enough for him to fly around, that will be a perfect home although for most people this is not possible - however some flying time indoors outside of the cage is a must. A parrot cage that has two levels and an area for him to retire to when he needs peace and quiet is an optimum choice.
When you are choosing a perch for your pet parrot remember he will need a smooth one to allow him to move about without hurting his feet. Willow and hawthorn branches are ideal in a parrot cage. If you choose to use natural branches such as apple or pear you will need to wash them and make them smooth to reduce the spread of bacteria from wild birds. A good place for your parrot and parrot cage is in the middle of a room. He can interact by watching the hustle and bustle in your home.
Safety is an important priority and therefore it is not advisable to place your parrot cage in a kitchen or near anywhere where there is too much heat. Cigarette smoke will affect your parrots breathing and make him ill. Also avoid direct sunlight.
