The case against war on Iraq has been discussed many times. Whether or not the Iraq was necessary, has been a debatable issue for a long time.

The famous Bush administration plan for war against Iraq seems to violate both international law and common morality. Here, the topic may require a real heated national debate. When it comes to a debate on this topic, the discussion should start with the recognition that an attack on Iraq would involve an attack on the charter of the United Nations. Here, the United States will considered to be violating many provisions including the Article 1, section 4. According to this provision, all members should stay away from the threat or using force against the territorial integrity when it comes to their international relations. The use of force against political independence of any state is also prohibited under the Article 1, Section 4.

Most people think that an international support should not come into the way wherein some unavoidable circumstances give birth to immediate violent action. These circumstances may exist in case there is a clear and present danger or threat as displayed by the Iraqi regime of Saddam Hussein.

There are many facts and conjectures famous about Iraq. The facts prove that the regime of Saddam Hussein is tyrannical. The tyranny invaded a neighboring country about twelve years ago and brutally killed Kurdish rebels about fifteen years ago.

According to the conjecture, Iraq may have chemical and biological weapons even today. It may also be developing a nuclear weapon secretly.

However, none of the above mentioned facts or conjectures portray Iraq as a clear and present danger. If Iraq is a tyranny, it does not provide clear grounds for preemptive ware. Many other tyrannies exist around the world and some of these are supported by the United States. As mentioned earlier, the Kurdish minority was brutally attacked by Iraq but this does not justify the war attack on Iraq. The main reason is that the United States remained silent and supported Iraqi regime when it attacked Kurdish minority. In fact, US weapons were used by Turkey to kill over thousands of its Kurds.

Many other nations such as Indonesia and Guatemala killed thousands of their own natives. These countries were never threatened by war but also received weapons from the United States.

The history of Iraq’s invading Kuwait is similar to other countries that involved Cambodia, Panama, Vietnam and Grenada. It may be true that Iraq possess or may be developing weapons that follow mass destruction. However, there is no surety that Iraq will use these weapons.

Many nations across the globe including Israel, Pakistan and India possess these weapons. However, none of the countries having these weapons have used them to produce deadly consequences as killing millions of people as many years ago in Hiroshima, Nagasaki and Southeast Asia.

A war against Iraq does not have any logic when it is associated with tragic events of September 11.
