Through laboratory experiments, researchers from Gothenburg University and Lund University in Sweden found that a mixture combined with breast milk alpha lactalbumin and fatty acids can kill 40 kinds of cancer cells. Based on the English acronym HAMLET of this substance, the researchers called this substance "Hamlet." Daily Mail quoted words of Geer Carlsson, an assistant professor in the University of Gothenburg of Department of Chemistry, which reported that in fact, this material was found in breast milk a few years ago, but now it is the time to test its role in the human body. Researcher gave a period of 5 days treatment to patients with bladder cancer. They injected Hamlet into the respondents’ body through the catheter then found there were killed cancer cells in the urine of patients after each treatment. "The results proved that this substance can reduce the number of cancer cells effectively in a short term, researchers will continue to test the treatment on skin cancer, cell mucosa cancer and brain cancer. The most important is that the substance has no side effects, it only eliminated cancer, would not harm healthy cells." the major achievement is an unintentional discover when they were only testing the antimicrobial properties of breast milk. "In fact, when researchers are looking for antibacterial substances in breast milk, the result which Hamlet can kill cancer cells was found in a testing accidentally.
The finding would lead a hot topic which is more beneficial to health between milk and infant formula milk. Karlsson said:"up to now, there is no evidence to prove that breast milk can produce Hamlet. But according to conclusion, it can be generated in acid environment in infant stomach. This shows that breastfeeding can actually reduce the risk of suffering cancer for infants." Then Karlsson got inspiration, simulated infant stomach acid environment and made synthesis of Hamlet.
Currently there are limitations to complete the preliminary study because Hamlet must be accurately injected into cancer cells. Karlsson said: "If a doctor can put it into the venous blood flow to tumor cells, it can also produce the same effect." Researchers believe that Hamlet has a positive effect on the treatment of cancer for children. They hope to begin clinical trials as soon as possible. Carlson said treatment of using Hamlet would become an effective complement to existing chemotherapy. He predicted that this therapy would be widely used for adult cancer patients in 5 years.
