In today’s competitive world where competition is at its peak, customers are no more emotionally driven and flooded with products from every sphere of the world, marketing as a practice has emerged as the most important activity and has got due importance by the corporates. After globalization, most of the firms have identified the need for specific courses in marketing as they are now expanding their reach from local to global market and not only deal with physical products but also offer various services which demand designing of special marketing programme and an urgent need for competent managers.
Therefore, in order to meet the industry demands, there are several courses being offered by most of the institutes which include both- long term and short term courses like PGDM Marketing, MBA Marketing, Certificate courses in Marketing, six month diploma courses in marketing etc. Short term courses are designed and suitable for working executives, and also for those who do not have any formal degree in marketing but are determined to excel in the field of marketing whereas full time courses are good for the candidates who are yet to pursue and complete their professional education, clear with career goals in advance and zest to have an in-depth knowledge of marketing.
The PGDM Marketing or MBA Marketing offers an opportunity to students to learn various related fields of marketing like consumer behaviour, international marketing, brand management, integrated marketing communication, rural marketing, retail marketing, event marketing, services marketing, customer relationship management, strategic marketing, B2B marketing, distribution and channel management and other important areas besides core marketing papers. Exposure to these subjects not only give an in-depth knowledge but also sharpen the expertise and skills of managers thus helps them to become a thorough marketing professional who can balance the expectations of various stakeholders of the firm- customers, owner and society at large. They will also be able to contribute to the long term sustainable competitive advantage through proper scanning of firm’s micro and macro environmental forces.
The marketing programme offers many multi-faceted career choices in planning & strategizing, communication, brand building, customer relationship management, distribution & supply chain management, retailing, and marketing research, etc which not only offers exciting career options and lucrative rewards but a speedy growth in the career graph of the managers. It offers a unique opportunity to fresh graduates and experienced persons who want to enter the challenging area of marketing where professional growth is limited only by their aptitude, objective and application. From just being an executive, a person can go up to the level of VP Marketing. Eligibility criteria to apply to any full time (two year programme) especially in case PGDM marketing or MBA marketing is Bachelor’s degree in any discipline with 50% marks in aggregate recognized by Association of Indian Universities/AICTE as eligible for postgraduate studies in management. In case of short term courses, candidates with 10+2 can apply.
