If you are attempting to have a concrete foundation laid around your home, or you are taking it upon yourself to complete the task then you will need a good concrete sealer in order to complete the job. This special sealer is something you must have in order to add a layer of protection to your concrete foundation.
The sealer is easy to apply onto your concrete foundation, and it will help extend the life of the surface. The sealer is a simple chemical wash that in many regards is similar to paint. Concrete sealer is applied to the top surface of a concrete foundation in order to prevent water or any other type of liquids from ruining it.
The fact that concrete requires water when it is being produced makes it very ironic that after it has dried water and concrete are enemies. If the surface of the concrete is penetrated by water then this can cause the foundation to crack. This would in turn allow even more water to get in and cause even more damage. The purpose of a foundation is of course to be strong and durable, if water damage is allowed to occur then the foundation will not be doing its job.
Concrete is known to be porous, like a sponge. Therefore applying a concrete sealer to the concrete surface will in effect block off the pours and stop any liquids or other contaminants from entering the surface. The sealer is best applied when the concrete has dried.
Before applying the sealer you need to make sure that the surface of the concrete does not have any dirt or debris. Brush off any debris that is present using a brush or cloth. If all the dirt is not removed then your concrete surface may look uneven as it will get between the sealer and the concrete.
A thin coat of sealer is all that is needed for your surface. You should avoid using excessive amounts of sealer, instead spread the sealer on the concrete surface, do not pour it on.
There are many different types of concrete sealers on the market. There are see-through and colored sealers. You would not generally use a colored tint on a foundation.
The sealant is normally inexpensive, so you do not have to worry about spending an excessive amount of money on this product. Use a brush to apply the sealant on to the concrete, instead of trying to pour it directly onto the surface.
Remember that you should apply a concrete sealer to your concrete if you want it to last over time. If you do not, then you may run into trouble in years to come when the water wears down the concrete and causes severe structural problems due to the weakness of the foundation.
