Why not make your garage neater with garage floor paint? Usually, garage floors are only made of bare concrete. However, it is possible to add a bit of color to your drab garage floor by painting on it. Garage floor painting not only decorates your garage, but it is also very functional, especially in the garage. The usual paint that is used for garage floors is epoxy-based concrete garage floor paint. This is used because it has many advantages. It is not only waterproof; it is also highly resistant to oil stains and is very easy to clean.

If you are planning on painting your garage floor yourself, then here are a few tips on how to paint your own garage floor.

Tip 1: Choose The Perfect Days To Do The Project

Depending on the size of your garage, it will require at least two full days to finish this garage floor paint project. This is because the drying time may take up to 24 hours, depending on the type of paint, so make sure to plan ahead and that you don't have anything else planned for this weekend. Also, you have to check the weather. Firstly, the temperature has to be around 50 to 80 degrees Fahrenheit, otherwise the garage floor paint might peel. The concrete shouldn't be damp from rain and such, so you should check that as well.

Tip 2: Prep And Clean Up The Garage

After putting the dates into consideration, you have to prepare the garage for the day of garage floor painting. If you don't clean the floor properly, the paint will not stick properly. Also, make sure your garage floor is flat, bare concrete without any cracks or imperfections, and isn't sealed. If so, you will have to patch up the cracks and remove the seal first.

Make sure there aren't any oil stains or dust and dirt on the floor. Wash the dirt off with a high-pressure hose, then work in more thoroughly with garage floor cleaner or the cleaning solution that's usually included in any Epoxy Paint Garage Floor Kit. Apply this with a heavy-duty broom, such as a bristle broom. Scrub your floor well.

Don't forget to cover the bases of your walls with plastic sheeting to make sure that the garage floor paint doesn't reach your walls as well.

Tip 3: Apply The Epoxy Paint

Most standard Epoxy Paint Garage Floor Kits come with the epoxy paint and hardener. Once you are ready and you have planned out how you will systematically apply paint on your garage floor, mix the two components of the concrete garage floor paint together. Mix them thoroughly and make sure that not one drop is wasted. Once they are well mixed, put the lid back on the can loosely and let it set away from the sun for about 30 minutes.

After the components have been set, you have to apply the mixture within 2 hours so that they will successfully adhere to the garage floor. Define the edges and borders with the smaller paintbrush, and then apply the paint on the general area with paint rollers.

Tip 4: Add Color Flakes While Painting

After painting a section of the garage floor, broadcast the color flakes with your hand, if you would like to use them. You need to do this step while the concrete garage floor paint is still wet, so that the flakes could properly stick to the paint.

After coating the whole garage with the garage floor paint, allow it all to dry in 12 to 24 hours.

Tip 5: Top It Off With A Clear Coat

Shortly, before the garage floor paint has completely dried, prepare the top coat by mixing it with hardener. Make sure it is all well blended. As with the paint, put the lid back on and allow it to settle for about 30 minutes, in a place away from direct sunlight.

About a minute before you start applying the coat, mix it well. If you want to use the anti-skid particles to make the surface rougher and less slippery, feel free to add them at this stage.

You have to cover the whole garage floor within 2 hours as well. The top coat is white when white but becomes clear when it dries up.

Enjoy your new garage floor paint and marvel at how much neater and more stain-resistant your garage is now. You can do everything about garage floor painting by yourself, or you can also seek assistance from professional paintingcontractors.
