You are probably all too aware that 99% of diets being promoted on the internet simply do not work. You don't need me to tell you that. Searching for the best diet program, therefore, can be difficult.
But have you ever been told why they don't work? Because once you understand that, you will be in a far better position to start losing weight correctly.
This article will help you understand why, and finally give you the knowledge you need to achieve permanent long-lasting weight loss. Starting today. That is what you want, right?
So you probably already know that weight loss pills and potions are simply a gimmick to take your money. Same goes for most of those fancy exercise programs and gizmos that you see on the infomercials.
Now I'm probably going to shock you a little here, as well as upset a few people in the weight loss industry, whose livelihoods depend on you buying their products, but I'm here to tell you that your body doesn't actually like going on a diet!
Yep, that's right. If you go on a conventional diet, where you are constantly reducing the amount of calories that you consume, your body will at some point go into 'survival mode' and try to 'hold on' to its body fat stores as much as possible. This is the main reason why you, as a dieter, fail to lose weight in the long term.
Sure, you will lose weight initially, mainly in the form of water loss of course, but after a few weeks or months, your body will start to resist, and look to hold on to its energy stores i.e. fat!
Of course, the big players in the $37 billion weight loss industry don't want you to know this. Fortunately for you I'm not one of those big players. I'm just a simple nutritionist, with no real financial interest in you buying magical pills and potions.
So it's not your fault if you keep failing to lose weight. No-one's probably taken the time to explain this to you before. Until now.
So, why does this happen? Well, we have to remember that the human body has been around for an awfully long time, and like every species on earth our main basic instinct is to 'survive'.
In humans, we can trace this instinct all the way back to Fred Flintstone's caveman days. In his day, food wasn't as plentiful as it is today. There were often times of drought and famine, and it was during these times that, simply in order to survive, their bodies had to adapt. And the way they adapted was the only way possible - to try to conserve as much fat as possible to see them through the baron times, when there simply wasn't any food available.
Unfortunately for us, this instinct is still very much with us today. Starve us of food and our body will go into 'survival' mode and adapt. Gee, thanks Fred!
So, what's the solution to this? How can we find a way around this so that our body doesn't get the signal that 'there is a famine coming'?
