Suppose you want the incoming calls that come in during different times of the day to be treated differently. How would you accomplish that? It can be easily done by the Time of Day routing plans that allow users to make extensive specifications on where the incoming calls should be routed at specific time periods during the day or specific days of the week. The numbers that have the Time of Day plans that are activated on them can be routed to any particular feature that is available on the service plan. For example, a business might want the calls to be delivered to an IVR or Interactive Voice Menu during the day, to the mobile phones of staff members during lunch break and to a Hunt Group during the evening.

Take a look at the following case studies to see how time of day routing can improve operational efficiency of an organisation.

Case Study 1

Graham runs a business where he employs several part time home workers who take calls during those periods of the day when the call centre staff cannot handle all the inbound calls. Graham is able to predict the different time periods that there is a huge influx of calls and he routes his calls during those times to a Hunt Group which include part time home workers as well. When the home based employees finish their working day, the hunt group reverts to the previous configuration.

Case Study 2

Joe is a plumber who works hard at improving his business. He wants to be available to his important clients even out of hours and attends all calls that come through at all times of the day or night. He soon finds that all of his customers are taking advantage of this service. He still wants to answer calls from his important clients, but do not want the other calls to be answered out of hours. By using a combination of time of day routing and caller routes, Joe was able to route all regular customers who called after 8 PM to a voice mailbox, while his VIP callers were routed to his mobile or land line at all hours.

You can use Time of day routing plans with any number range, including 0800 numbers, 0844 numbers and 0871 numbers.
