The clothes you wear go a long way in how people perceive you. For the young guy wanting to look trendy at parties, in public, or on a casual date, keep these simple style tips in mind next time you have to go shopping for urban clothing.

Clothing that fits your body type will not only dictate how comfortable you are but also how good you will look. A shirt that has a color and design that normally looks good on you will go to waste if it is too small or overly large. Overall, the really tight look is in for urban shirts but regular fit is also acceptable. Ultra baggy jeans and ultra tight jeans are two ends of the spectrum to avoid; somewhere in the middle is a safe choice. For preppy looks a more regular fit to a slightly tight jean is better, while for skater and hip hop clothing looks choose jeans that are slightly baggy. Faded black and solid blue jeans are common styles but there are other colors such as dark navy and gray faded jeans that are also in style.

Urban hoodies and jeans are a great look for almost any occasion where laid back clothing is acceptable. Urban jackets are another stylish choice to go with jeans and can go over two layered short or long sleeve tees. For the urban hoodie or urban jacket, find a design and color you like that expresses you best. If you know you look good in red, for example, find designs with more red in them and steer clear of colors that don’t look good on you. Complimentary clothing colors for you depend on your eye color, hair color, and skin type. It’s important for that hip hop clothing or skater wear to have a color palette that flatters you. Not sure what colors look good on you? Here is a general run down of what colors match different combinations of skin complexions, eye and hair colors.

For bright colors such as blue, red, and green, as well as bright pink, violet, and aqua, choose the colors that contrast with your skin tone and hair color. Deep intense colors like dark brown, navy blue, charcoal gray and purple work better for beige, bronze, and brown hair colors and skin tones. Light colors such as medium blue, turquoise, and navy-gray go well with blonde hair colors and soft beige, and peach- like skin tones. Neutral colors such as black, gray, white, and charcoal generally look good on all skin tones and hair and eye colors. It’s a good idea to ask friends what colors look best on you if you’re unsure as most skin tones and hair/eye colors aren’t restricted to just these guidelines. You may look trendy in colors outside of these suggestions. Most importantly, if you look good in those new urban clothes, that’s what really counts.
