A regional directory is developed for sites that caters to audience in a specific geographical regions. In a regional directory, the categories can be classified into countries, states, cities, and towns. Most of the sites listed in regional directory have a physical presence in a geographical location, for example teddy bear stores, book stores and etc. Submission to a regional directory is slightly different than a regular directory. In the submission page, you will be required to fill in the details of your company including company name, office address, telephone number, fax number, and etc. When submitting to a regional directory, make sure it caters specifically to your location. For example, if your food catering website is based in California, you should not submit to a Canada regional directory as the editor will decline the submission. Instead, you should submit the food catering site to a US regional directory. Exaggerative words such as best, largest and etc should not be used.
When submitting the site, make sure it is submitted to a category that is relevant to the topic and geographical location. If your site is aimed at kids under 18 years old, you should submit to the kids and teens section. For example, if you own a history site, it should be submitted to Society: History: By Region: South America: Mexico. If you submit to the top level category, the editor will have to move it to a more relevant category. He will have to spend time finding the appropriate category for your site. Most editors are volunteer and not paid to review the submissions. Since they need to go to work, they will not have time to move it to the right category. Consequently, they will reject the submission of the site. After your site is rejected, you will be request to submit to the right category. Sometimes, a site that is rejected from the directory will never be considered for inclusion again.
The site must not provide content that is identical to the other sites that are already listed in the directory. One trick that webmasters use is to submit sites with identical content under different domains. Sometimes, they will redirect the domain to the main page. For example, Patio Company may submit patiofurniture.com and a different URL patioguide.com to obtain two listing inclusion from the directory. Most directories are manually reviewed so you should avoid this practice.
It is best to use the official title of the homepage as the title for the site in the directory submission. If want to vary the titles, make sure you include the main keyword in the page title of the homepage. The descriptions should summarizes the content of the site. You should not use promotional words in the descriptions such as best, largest, greatest and etc.
There are more than 5000 directories on the internet. Obviously, it will take a long time to submit to all the directories. If you don’t want to waste your time in directory submission, you can outsource it to a SEO company. The SEO company have trained staffs that are experienced in directory submission. By handing over the assignment to them, your site is guaranteed to receive high approval rate. When hiring a SEO company, it is important to read customer reviews to see if they can provide you with the kind of service you need.
