It is exciting to bring home a new puppy. During the first few days in your new home you may become frustrated with your new friend though as you will have to teach him the proper place to go to the bathroom. However, you need to understand that it takes puppies time to get adjusted to their new surroundings. One of the most consistent things that you can do for him during this time, while building a good relationship, is use puppy training pads.
These pads are thin and absorbent. They can be used in numerous ways to assist your young puppy in learning where the proper place to go to the bathroom is. One way in which to use puppy housebreaking pads is to choose a place to put it and then teach your puppy to use it. Your other option is to use a small crate that is just big enough for your puppy to rest in comfortably and in which he can also turn completely around. Since dogs have a natural, inborn desire not to soil their den it is important for this crate to be just the right size. If the crate is too large, your puppy will simply relieve himself in one area and sleep in the other. It is also important to understand that young puppies are not able to "hold it" like older dogs can. You will need to let your young puppy out on a regular basis throughout the day or he will not be able to control himself. This will lead him to become accustomed to soiling his bed.
Whenever the crate is properly used during unsupervised times, puppy pee pads are a very effective way in which to house train your new friend. If you cannot have someone check on your puppy throughout the day, you will want to use these pads in a spare room in order to secure this idea in his mind. The best room is one that doesn't have any carpet but does have enough room to place the puppy training pads on one side with his food, water and toys on the other end of the same room. This will reinforce the idea of separate spaces for these separate needs while also giving your puppy enough room to move around and play while you are unavailable.
Regardless of what method you choose to use for your puppy, housebreaking plays an important role in forming a healthy, long lasting relationship with your new friend.
