Eddie Alvarez is a famous mixed martial arts fighter. In the course of his career he has managed to climb towards the top. It all started for him in Kensington, Pennsylvania.
Eddie Alvarez was born on January 11, 1984 in Kensington, Pennsylvania. Having been born in the United States of America, Alvarez is American, but has descended from Puerto Rico and Spain. Eddie Alvarez has a number of popular nicknames used to describe him including "The Silent Assassin" and "American Knuckle Star." The former of the two is mostly due to his striking prowess.
He was raised in a very tough neighborhood in Philadelphia. This neighborhood is infamous for its violence, drugs, sex, and danger in general. Fortunately for Alvarez, he was able to escape some of these problems by attending a private Catholic school. Here in this Catholic school, the fighting career of Eddie Alvarez began. He was a wrestler there in high school and took a love for organized fighting. After high school he began to take formal training in fighting.
Less than one year after beginning his training for mixed martial arts, Alvarez began to pursue a career professionally in the sport.
Alvarez is known for his boxing abilities, which keep him in competition against larger fighters. He has always enjoyed the challenge of taking on fighters that are larger than him and fighting in a weight class that is above what he might be most effective in.
After taking a tough loss in the higher 170 pound weight class, Alvarez determined he would drop down to lower divisions in his fighting. He has since taken part in 160 and 154 pound divisions, which are closer to his current stature. He is 5 feet 9 inches and weighs 155 pounds.
Throughout his career Alvarez has shown a great ability to end fights early. He has an extremely impressive career record, winning 20 fights in 22 total fights overall. This is a very impressive total, but the numbers that are more impressive are his stoppages. In his fights he has been able to win by knockout 11 times out of 20 wins. In the 9 remaining victories he has won the fights by submission 7 times. 18 of his 20 total victories have come before a decision could be made by judges observing the fight. The impressive manner in which he wins his fight has made him very popular in the mixed martial arts world.
Eddie Alvarez has been extremely impressive since losing by TKO to Nick Thompson more than 2 years ago. In the last 2 years Eddie Alvarez has managed to win 10 fights in a row, and is streaking towards the top of the charts.
Though he is a great fighter, he is still not seen as the top fighter in the world. Sherdog.com currently ranks Alvarez as the 5th best lightweight fighter in the world. This is a great accomplishment, but Eddie Alvarez is of course seeking the opportunity to prove that his is among the best fighters in the world.
