Planning to go for an MBA? Well here is some help. If you are worried about whether you should do a regular course or pursue a job and get an MBA at the same time...options are open. Basically, the MBA courses in India can be categorized into the following 4 segments:
Full-time MBA – The latest trend is to get a management degree through a full time MBA program. It comprises of regular classes held by an institute or a university. A two year program runs for 21 months. Divided into 4 semesters, the course includes regular class lectures, case studies, group discussions, industrial exposure and summer internship. Every student has to elect a major like MBA in banking, MBA in marketing or a PGDM in International Business and minor specialization subjects. MBA colleges design the full-time programs for fresh graduates and people looking to change careers. In full-time MBA you get the advantage of loan facility, qualify for merit scholarships and get a universally recognized degree or post graduate Diploma.
Part-time MBA – If you want a management degree while working or doing a regular masters degree from a university or have personal responsibilities that holds you from joining a regular college, this method of management education is ideal. Though the course duration is prolonged due to splitting of time, the degree you get is recognized and employment opportunities are ample. Many AICTE approved MBA colleges have such courses on offer.
Distance Learning MBA -As the name implies this system of education gives you the advantage of getting a MBA degree from your desired college no matter how far you're from it. The major difference between distance learning and full time MBA is the number of study hours. The course curriculum and content remains the same except that in full time MBA the structure is a bit elaborate. This model of MBA is preferred by those who are bound by the constraint of place and time for doing their MBA. There are several institutes in India and abroad which offer MBA via distance learning at the undergraduate and post graduate level.
Online MBA Programs- Now you can get a MBA degree from the comfort of your home. All you need to do is register with an MBA institute offering online programs. This is a virtual method of teaching the full-time MBA. The course process is sometimes speeded up and streamlined to customize it according to the needs of the student. You can choose any major you want and get the same quality of degree and qualify for jobs or promotions. Many employers are happy to partially or fully finance online MBA studies for promising employees.
Executive Management Programs- Tailor-made for experienced professionals, EMBA programs include customized planned curriculum suiting a corporate setup. Some of the best B schools in association with major corporates conduct these courses. They can be campus based or online. If you're an employee pursuing such a course your employer will give you time off for the executive training and many will sponsor the course. Campus-based executive MBA programs typically meet on weekends, whereas online courses meet on self-paced, flexible schedules. You are required to complete the course in two years or less. During this period, you major in a new field like MBA financial services or Executive MBA in Marketing and sharpen your management abilities by combining coursework with day-to-day professional experience.
