The recent violent clashes between anti-government "Red Shirt" protesters and the Thai army has killed 40 people and left Bangkok in ruins. At the time of writing things calmed down considerably, but some fires are still burning, and parts of downtown Bangkok is still essentially no-go areas occupied by the soldiers, leaving potential visitors with a lot of questions.

Since May 21, most of Bangkok is safe to visit. At the time of writing some of these areas have been closed and in fact the only place available, and so far is probably good to avoid them if possible.

Fortunately, services at airports in Bangkok, Suvarnabhumi and Don Muang have not experienced any interruptions, although the road closures in certain areas of central Bangkok have been going back and forth to the airport problematic in some cases, and service Suvarnabhumi Airport Express bus has been canceled temporarily.
