Oratory is an art by itself. Very few people will be able to understand the effectiveness of becoming a good orator, as they do not think of oratory to be an art or for that matter a quality that any person may have. Good orators have always made their mark in the pages of history and they will keep on doing so, in the future too.
There is always a contradiction between two schools of thought, regarding the oratory skills. One school is of the opinion that an orator is born and cannot be trained. The other school is of the opinion that every person can be trained to become an orator. The middle path is what attracts the imagination of many people in this world. They are of the opinion that if a person wants to be a good orator, he must be born with certain qualities and the rest of it is all training and skills.
-
In order to be a good orator, the first thing that is important for any person is to be sincere with what he says in front of the people. Sincerity is a primary criterion for becoming a good orator, as if you believe in what you say, and then only will you be successful in making the people believe in what you are saying. Belief is an important factor as far as oratory is concerned. The speaker and the listeners must be tied by a bonding of belief and then only can an orator become a successful one.
-
It is also important to gain as much knowledge as possible on the topic on which you are planning to speak. It is understandable that knowledge about anything in this world is limitless and so, it is not possible for anyone to know everything about a subject. But the point is to know everything that you think it is important in order to give a proper and interesting speech in front of the eager and in most cases knowledgeable listeners.
-
A good orator must also be careful about the content of his speech. Many things must be considered before giving out the speech in front of any audience. It is important to know the nature of the audience and also the sentiments which are valuable for them. The speaker must not say anything that may hurt the sentiments if the listeners who are listening to the speech. The speaker must also ensure that the speech that he is delivering contains relevant data which can corroborate his stand taken in the speech.
-
Voice is the most important asset of any orator. If the orator does not have a good voice then it will be very difficult to communicate with the audience. If you have a good voice, that again will not make you a good orator. If you want to become a good orator, then it is important that you learn to modulate your voice. Modulation is the art of injecting emotion into your voice so that the listeners are touched by it. If your voice modulation is perfect, then the listeners will be easily getting the point that you want to make through your speech and this will make you a good orator.
-
Many speakers are very shy in nature and they tend to get a bit nervous when they are addressing a large gathering. Shyness is not the trait that a good speaker or orator must have. If you are shy, then this may not be the right field for you. You will have to give up the shyness and ensure that you have a confident and bold outlook while you are going to address the public. This confidence that you will carry on to the stage will also be distributed into audience and they will also feel good while they are listening top you. If they get the sense that you are afraid or shy, they will no longer be patient in trying to hear what you want to say.
-
It is important to maintain constant eye contact with your audience while you are delivering your speech. Many speakers tend to look in some other directions while they are delivering their speech. This habit of the speaker can create a negative impression in the minds of the listeners and they may not be interested to listening to the speakers anymore. If the speaker constantly keeps eye contact, then the listeners will feel important and they will love to listen to the speaker over and over again.
-
A good orator always adds humor in his speech. It is important to give the audience a chance to have a laugh and that too before delving into something very serious in your speech. This will give them time to relax and also break the monotony of a lengthy speech.
