Places of interest in Spain – Ferrol

While you plan your tour of Spain, take enough care to know about the place of your proposed visit. You know, every place in Spain has many places which are of interest for the tourist.
Be it a popular and industrialized town like Barcelona or Madrid or a small town like Oloto, it has quite a number of places which are of interest for the tourist.
Interestingly, all these places have many historical monuments, most educative museums, parks, etc. So your proposed tour should depend on what interests you.
If you are the one who wants to spend time on a beach, visit places like Costa Brava. If you want places rich in monumental buildings, then visit Barcelona. In this list also comes Ferrol, a moderate city on the Atlantic Ocean in the province of A Coruna with a population of about 80000 local inhabitants.
Brief history:
History of the city is traced to Phoenicians, Greeks and Visigoths and even to the Roman period. Many monuments which bear testimony to the influence of these cultures can be seen even to this day. The Government of Spain has made every effort to preserve these buildings. Some of the places of interest are briefly discussed here:
The coast:
This city is blessed with one of the most beautiful beaches in Spain. It has a naval base and that speaks of the strategic location of this city. There are places identified specially for tourists so that they can enjoy the water sports unhindered by anyone. Places are also identified for children. Rias Baixas is one of the best beaches in Ferrol.
Museums:
Ferrol has many museums like Diocesano museum, a museum on military power and another museum Museo das Marinas which is dedicated to the fishing community. The other famous museum is Museo do Pontevedra which has a collection of most precious jewelry which dates back to the Bronze age. It also has a collection of great works of art by renowned artist and painter Alfonso Castelao. The painting work which depicts the poverty and misery caused by the Spanish Civil War is a most outstanding work of Castelao.
Other places of interest:
Ferrol has many monasteries like Monasterio de Ribas, Monasterio de Oseira, etc. It also has many parks and gardens which provide the much needed relaxation to those who visit the place. In addition to all these, Ferrol has several churches and cathedrals which date back to Gothic and Moors civilization.
