Now for the web savvy among you – you will already know the answer to how. If you do not happen to know, the answer is advertising. The biggest and most valuable commodity on the internet is "traffic". Regular website visitors (traffic) are the most important thing to any website.
Just like it is with a brick and mortar business, it doesn’t matter how good your place is, or how good what you are selling is if you don’t have visitors coming in to look around.
This is where the big social networks have it all, they bribe you with all the fancy free games, applications and things you can do to keep you happy and keep you as a member. The premise is simple enough, the more visitors you have frequenting your site – the more attractive it is to an advertiser who wants their ad seen by as many people as possible. Obviously this means that the website in question can successfully demand higher fees for placing ads on their site. Now if you are a webmaster, then you know how much it can cost to place an ad on a popular site, a rough guide might be £10 per month, per 100,000 visitors.
Now imagine something like this on the scale of face book? The latest statistics indicate between 200 million and 900 million users per month. Now obviously face book couldn’t charge based on my equation, no one would be able to afford them, but using it as a guide to the advertising power of traffic – they can pretty much charge whatever they want. There are actually estimated daily ad revenues for face book on a few statistical sites, the estimates vary from half a million to 1 and half million pounds per day between a combination of google ads and private ads.
Yes face-book and the others have all these great features and things to do, but with that kind of money coming in they can afford to have these things made for you to keep you as a member, but let me ask you one simple question, do any of these top social networking site give you any form of monetary rewards for helping them make such a ridiculous amount of money?
I have created my own social network site with a difference – revenue sharing. Now I don’t have face book’s billions or their team of programmers so my site doesn’t look as good or have as much to offer as face book yet, but new functionality is being added on a "soon as" basis. But the most fundamental feature of my site is the revenue sharing system I have come up with, if you are a member of my site, you are helping me to make advertising and affiliate money – so why shouldn’t you be rewarded for that? To find out what it’s all about, come over to writer's social net. The future of social networking is helping each other to make money instead of just taking it from people.
