Dog agility is a sport for dogs in which a handler instructs a dog in mastery of obstacle race for accuracy and speed. The competition has a judge, who decides and designs the area where the game is to be conducted. The dog cannot complete without the direction of the trainer or handler. In the competition, the handler must assess the course, able to decide for strategies and directs the dog throughout the training.
The handler is allowed to have a short walk-through before the start of the competition. All handlers can run and walk around the area to determine the appropriate possible position. This is to guide and direct the dog for an accurate and immediate way through the obstacles. The dog and the handler have a different path that needs careful planning to have a quick run.
Most paths are composed of various turns and U-turns to about 270 degrees. The obstacles can be used more than once. The handler must have planned for the strategies between himself and the dog for layers and distances. They are given maps of the agility course that have icons that show the position and orientation of the obstacles. Each dog in the course and handler is given an opportunity to complete successfully. Handlers direct the dog in verbal commands and body language including position of the arms, shoulders and feet.
