Till date, many writers and painters have tried to jot down or sketch the flawless beauty of Taj Mahal in their words and in paintings. But, failed to do so as it really difficult to describe the beauty of Taj in words.
Heralded as the "epitome of eternal love", Taj Mahal is a monument of immense historical significance. This World Heritage Site of India is one of the popular tourist attractions of India. Built by Emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal, Taj Mahal is a perfect testimony of Mughal grandeur.
Taj Mahal, considered as one of the "seven wonders of the modern world", is constructed on the banks of River Yamuna, just 2 km away from the massive Agra Fort. It required almost 20 years(1631 A.D to 1651 A.D) and 20, 000 labourers to create this magnificent monument. It stretches to an area of 42 acres.
Attractions of Taj Mahal:-
Taj Mahal is a awesome piece of architectural masterpiece. It is a true reflection of Islamic form of architecture. According to some historians, Ustad Isa was the chief architect of this monument.
The main attraction of Taj Mahal is its white marble which are specially brought from Makrana in Rajasthan. It is surrounded by sprawling gardens, beautiful fountains and other beautiful things. The main premise of Taj Mahal is built atop a square platform and is surrounded by four minarets of 42m tall.
The intricate drawings on the walls, motif works on the ceilings and the jali works are some of the special attractions of Taj Mahal. Another visual delight of Taj Mahal is its calligraphy. Amanat Khan of Siraj has produced this beautiful calligraphy.
Best Time To Visit Taj Mahal:
Travellers can visit Taj Mahal at any time of the year. But, the months October to March is considered the best time to visit Taj Mahal. During dawn, the Taj seems to be pinkish in color. But with the gradual passage of time, its color changes into milky white. Even on the full moon night, Taj Mahal dazzles like a jewel. So, never miss to visit Taj on a full moon night.
Access To Taj Mahal:
By Air: Indian Airlines operates daily fights to Agra from major Indian cities. The Agra airport is just 7km away from the city centre.
By Rail: The vast network of India railways joins Agra with various major destinations of India. Agra has three railway stations namely Agra Cantonment, Agra Fort and Raja-ki-Mundi. Palace on wheels, Shatabdi, Rajdhani and Taj Express joins Agra with rest of India.
By Road: Agra is connected to nearby cities like Delhi, Jaipur, Mathura and Fatehpur Sikri by vast network of roadways. Regular state run and private buses ply from these cities to Agra.
Local Transportation: Local transportations like taxis, tempo, auto rickshaws and cycle rickshaws are available in Agra which will take you to Taj Mahal. Even you can ride on some eco-friendly vehicles like horse driven tongas, battery operated buses and rickshaws to reach Taj Mahal.
