For most people, a holiday is for relaxing, for getting away from it all, from the stress of the office or from smog-filled streets. Lying on a towel on the beach, taking deep breaths of clean, sea air or just looking at the people who are doing the same is a good way of relaxing. Another way of relaxing is just walking among wonderful scenery, among green vegetation with a backdrop of a tall mountain in the distance. The beaches of Spain's Mediterranean have all of these possibilities where you can experience these varieties of relaxation. Costa Cálida is one such place.
The Warm Coast
As its name indicates, it is a part of the warm and sunny Mediterranean coast. Located next to the province of Murcia, it is a long expanse of sandy beach, beautifully maintained and spotless. In the distance you can see the nearby mountain that looks down onto the beach and out to sea. If you prefer to just sit back and look at the beautiful scenery of white sandy beach, blue Mediterranean and even bluer skies while feeling the cool sea breezes that refresh and invigorate, then you should take a walk on the nearby mountain.
Local Produce
The inhabitants of Costa Cálida grow vegetables, fruits and other produce in the fertile mountain soil. The nearby sea has valuable stocks of fish that local fishermen catch and sell to the restaurants that cater to the many tourists. They are drawn to Costa Cálida by the great combination of beaches, sea and mountains and also by the seafood that is always fresh in the local restaurants.
The Museum
One place that you should not miss is the local museum. It has many artifacts from Roman and pre-Roman times that have been carefully preserved and put on display. The highlight is the almost complete Roman Theater that has been painstakingly restored. Some of the props used in the theater, items of decoration for the theater itself and even a part of the stage where the performers tried to win applause from the Roman audience can be admired by modern tourists.
Costa Cálida is not as famous as the other resorts that dot the Mediterranean coast but it has its charm, as the yearly influx of tourists indicates. They are drawn by the quiet beauty of the place, by the winning combination of sea and mountain and also by the possibility of having a real vacation in an unforgettable place.
