Could it be that affiliates do not need a product of their own to promote or could it be that a large start up cost is not needed. Perhaps it is the fact that affiliates do not need to hold stock of any kind, maybe it is because affiliates have the choice of which reputable company to work with. Affiliate marketing has become very popular mainly because it is easy to start up, with very little start up costs. You do not need any special skills or technical know how to be successful, anybody can succeed as an affiliate just follow these tips to get started.
- Is there enough demand for the product you want to promote:
Do some research on this, because it is no good putting together a business plan if nobody wants what you are going to promote. Do some research on the company and product, if it is a valid company and you have verified that you want to promote the product then things should be alright. If you are not sure about the company or the product then look for another affiliate partner.
- Is the product you have chosen of high quality:
It is no good trying to sell a product that is a load of rubbish. If the product you are trying to sell is of inferior quality then you will not earn the commissions you expect, simply because you will have more "returns" than sales.
- What are the percentage of commissions paid:
Do some research on commissions paid for your affiliate product and compare them with several supply companies. Look for a 50% to 60% commission the only exception to these figures are, if there is an exceptionally high turn over on the product you are going to endorse.
- At what intervals are commissions paid:
Some affiliate partners pay commissions every week some pay once a month and some pay at even longer intervals. Pick the commission payment structure that suits you.
Some affiliate partners will only pay out on a minimum number of sales. Say you have to make a minimum number of ten sales then you get paid a commission from the eleventh sale onward. Some affiliate partners will only pay you a commission on the minimum amount in cash sales. Again you choose what commission payment suits you.
- Do some research on the amount of traffic that the vendors business is able to attract:
There are two ways to look at this, one is that if there is a large amount of traffic attracted to the site, then the competition between affiliates will be high. It also means the rewards will be high because of the amount of visitors that are attracted to the site.
Two, if the vendors site visitors are at the lower end, it could mean that the product on offer is not particularly popular therefore not worth pursuing. It could also mean that this could be the beginning of a new and popular "niche" you should investigate further and make up your mind on what to do.
- Are you paid a recurring commission:
Are you paid a commission on future sales, if you are paid only on a "one off " basis, then seriously consider looking for another affiliate partner to do business with.
- What marketing tools can your affiliate business partner offer you:
A good affiliate partner will supply you with all the necessary marketing tools for you to use when promoting one of their products.
