Jobs in PR are definitely high in demand, as this career is a lucrative and challenging one and offers many perks and bonuses. Those strong in people management skills and communication skills usually opt for such jobs. The main job of a PR personnel is to manage and maintain his/her company’s public reputation and image.
Job profile of a PR personnel
PR work can be extremely varied and the job profile of a PR personnel tends to depend on the sector and organization. Typical PR work usually involves the following tasks.
PR employment personnel have to manage a potential crisis situation’s public relations aspect. They have to foster community relations by making the company take part in community initiatives and through events like open days.
They also have to commission market research, manage and source sponsorship and speaking opportunities, update vital information on the company’s website, maintain that website by inputting recent updates, organize various kinds of events such as press tours, open days, exhibitions and press conferences, coordinate and devise photo opportunities and so on.
Jobs in PR also entail the supervision and preparation of the production of multimedia programs, films, photographs, videos – all with a promotional purpose, direct mail leaflets, handouts, publicity brochures and other similar materials.
PR personnel also have to supervise the editing and writing of annual reports, articles, speeches, case studies, in house magazines; they have to analyze and collate media coverage; distribute, write and research different types of press releases to the targeted media or oversee such jobs.
Some other responsibilities in Jobs in PR include creating liaison with the media, answering the media’s queries diplomatically, handling the queries and questions posed by other organizations, individuals and the government via email, telephone and official letters.
But the toughest challenge of employment in PR jobs in high profile organizations like renowned MNCs remains in handling the malicious and often vicious media attacks, which is why PR jobs are often dubbed as media management jobs.
Jobs in PR also involve creating liaison with key spokespeople and colleagues; they also have to implement, develop and plan various kinds of public relations strategies.
Every organization has got its own stakeholders and they have their own expectations and concerns. A PR officer has to engage in regular research to gauge and find out all these expectations and concerns of stakeholders – this is called market research and PR personnel also have to monitor publicity.
Then these PR guys have to report everything to the organization’s management and explain with full details all the inferences they have drawn from their market research and survey. On the basis of such reports and findings, the company heads can form new policies and sanction new strategies and programs.
