Most people watch surfers with curiosity. Surfers glide among the waves and seem to be free of any worries. At first glance, surfers don’t seem to have much equipment at all. Beginning surfers are often surprised at how much surf gear it takes to get out into the waves. Surfboards are obviously necessary to surf but there are other accessories that you will need if you are going to surf. If you are not sure how much surf gear you need in order to surf, you should hire a professional surfer to help you get started.

Surfboards come in a variety of sizes, shapes, and materials. Some surfers who are new to the sport prefer longboard surfing board because it provides the most stability out of all surfing boards. If you start off using a longboard, you may soon find that you want a surfboard that is easy to control but has a relatively long base. A retro fish longboard is a good board to use if you want to increase your speed when you are surfing. It is not as long as a traditional longboard, but it is not as short as a true shortboard. You can often find a surfboard sale at outdoor supply stores and you may even find a retro fish longboard at a cheap price. You might also try looking at a bulletin board in a surf shop where there may be ads mentioning surfboards for sale.

Wetsuits are important if you are surfing in cold water. You should not get out into water that is extremely cold because you can become ill or injured. Cold water causes your body to start shutting down in order to keep vital organs functioning; therefore you will have to buy a wetsuit to surf in cold water. One other critical part of your surf gear should be surf wax. You can find surf wax at almost any surf shop. Applying surf wax to surfboards will make them easier for your feet to grip. Part of most surfers’ surf gear includes a surfboard leash, so that the board will not be carried away from them.

After you have all of your surf gear, you will want to protect your surfboard. You should invest in a surfboard bag to make sure that your surfboard does not get damaged when you are transporting to and from the beach. Surfboards can also become damaged if they are left outside in very hot weather. It is also easy to bang your surfboard against your vehicle which will put marks on the board. Having all of the right surf gear will help you surf safely and enjoyably.
