One of the most satisfying experiences one can have after finding out they are going to have a baby is to prepare a baby's room. It is a lot of fun setting up a nursery with so many varied options to pick from. You will probably want to be sure that everything is ready in advance of baby's first trip home.
You may choose to use green or yellow for the walls, if you do not yet know the sex of your baby. If you've decided to find out the gender of your baby, you can have the room completely prepared for the newest member of the family, well before you bring them home from the hospital.
There are a number of things that you will want to take into consideration, to establish a safe haven and ideal sleep conditions. At one point in the past it was trendy to use vibrant colors in the nursery to help with the baby's visual development. The fad lost its popularity after parents figured out that their babies weren't resting well, or had a tough time going to sleep.
It is advisable to use pastel colors, especially upon the walls. Gentle yellows, blues, lavenders, pinks and greens all work well. You can use any color that strikes your fancy, but pastels will help make the room more peaceful for the baby.
Check online for any recalls of bassinets and cribs, before buying a new bed for your baby. Purchase a crib that meets current safety regulations to keep your baby safe from injury. Even if it is new, be sure the bedding is washed, and the entire nursery is cleansed thoroughly.
Quilt or comforters need to be used for decoration only, until your little one is at least 1 year old. You can buy uniquely made clips to hang up a quilt on a wall. To be sure that your baby's facial area is clear of interference at all times, don't use pillows, top sheets or blankets.
Prepare to check on the baby very often, especially when they are still tiny, to make certain they have not rolled over onto their stomach, which can restrict their air passage. Make sure to keep the crib free of any toys and stuffed animals until the infant is a little older. You might also wish to invest in a baby monitor, so you can hear any different noises coming from the nursery as you sleep at night. There are a few monitors offered that not only enable you to hear your baby, but also observe it on a screen.
Be sure that the baby's room is a relaxing room for both yourself and your baby. A large amount of your time is going to be spent in the baby's room, too. You may wish to think about putting a daybed or couch in the nursery for your own use.
If you decide to use any type of scent in the room, such as lavender, keep it very light. Never use overwhelming scents in a nursery. Do not use plug in type perfumes as they are usually strong and work by warming chemicals.
Keeping the baby's room as clear of dust as possible will aid in reducing sniffles and stuffy noses. The baby should associate the nursery with comfort and restfulness. It should have a secure and comfortable ambiance.
