I have compiled a list of Nigerians who working hard to change Nigeria. It is based on my observations and to an extent, the influence they have had on me. I have also presented my reasons for believing that they deserve to be mentioned. Here is the list:

  1. Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye: Rated by Newsweek Magazine to be the 49th most influential man in the world, Pastor Adeboye is a model for all Nigerians. His lifestyle is simple, his dreams are big and his achievements are astounding. He pastors what may be the world’s largest church (the Redeemed Christian Church of God) with establishments like the Redeemer’s University, various secondary schools, Redemption Television… His home and headquarters, Redemption Camp hosts what may well be the largest annual gathering of Christians in the world.

  2. Bishop David Oyedepo: Bishop of the church with the largest weekly single service attendance, Bishop Oyedepo is indeed a force to be reckoned with. He is also the chancellor of Covenant University. He is famous for his teachings especially in the area of prosperity. He also teaches principles of success and growth.

  3. Pastor Tunde Bakare: He pastors the Latter Rain Assembly. Well known for his strong political opinions, Pastor Tunde Bakare boldly addresses his congregation and delivers sermons that directly attack corrupt government officials. He has been known to participate actively in protest rallies and is definitely a good example of not keeping quiet when things go wrong. Although he is highly controversial, I am of the opinion that he is making a strong impact on Nigeria.

  4. Rev Sam Adeyemi: If you are interested in a culture of excellence, then Rev Sam is a good choice. Pastor of Daystar Christian Centre, Pastor Sam is a model of success. He hosts Success Power, a motivational radio program aired in different parts of the country. Raised from a background of abject poverty, Pastor Sam has become successful against all odds. And that is what makes his messages of success and financial uplift very strong.

  5. Pastor Poju Oyemade: If there is any fast up-coming name in Nigerian church vocabulary, it is Poju Oyemade of Covenant Christian Centre. He hosts ‘The Platform’ an empowerment session that attracts highly sought-after inspirational speakers from all over the world. He is, by so doing, investing strongly in liberating the minds of Nigerians with specific focus on Youth.

I have chosen these people based on the impact they have had on Nigeria as a nation. I would not rate a pastor as being a change agent because he prays very well- that is a matter only God can measure. However, I have looked at impact of the economy, society and development of Nigeria as a whole. Noteworthy are the efforts of people like Pastor Taiwo Odukoya, Paul Adefarasin, Dr D.K. Olukoya, Pastor W.F. Kumuyi and many others.
