After deciding what type business you want to put up, next to it is branding or giving your business a name or title that sells. Below are some key points to remember when naming your business for better marketing result:

  1. BE DESCRIPTIVE – Think of your title as your main display: it is the first thing that the buyer sees, so be sure that it contains important information, such as brand, color, size, and condition of the item. If applicable, tell potential buyers of any promos you’re running or any freebies you may want to throw in.

  2. ADD ALTERNATE KEYWORDS FOR YOUR ITEM – This allows your item to show up in more searches. Let’s say you’re selling backpacks. Buyer may search for "bag," "backpack," or "schoolbag." You’ll want to cover all the bases, so instead of listing it merely as a "BAG," a good title might be, "B/NEW GRAY SPORTS BAG/ BACKPACK/ SCHOOLBAG 50% OFF!"

  3. LEARN THE LINGO – To save on space, learn how other sellers shorten their titles with accepted abbreviations (e.g., BNIB – brand new in box; BNWT – brand new with tags; NM – near-mint condition; etc).

Furthermore, knowing the above basic points will direct you to do advertising & marketing your product on the web. Here are some tips that could be helpful to make your product visible to the online community and bring traffic to your business web site.

• Go to a few of the big online retailers – visit Amazon.com, Buy.com, and others to see what they are doing. Why is this important? Because those big companies spend millions of dollars a year on research to make sure that their sites are appealing and effective at selling online to the average Internet user. You can benefit from their multi-million dollar research by studying what they all do and finding the common design techniques they all use and then applying those same techniques to your own site.

You will notice that they all display at least some of their products right on their home page for immediate purchase. It is a well documented fact that you will sell more online the faster you can get the product in front of the customer.

• Try to make it easy for the visitor to understand how to navigate through the rest of your site. Always categorize your products and name the categories with simple and short names. Then list those categories either in the main menu or in the site-wide side bar of your site so that they are always accessible no matter where the customer is in the site.

• Be sure to make your site looks professional, the purpose is to make the customer feel comfortable in purchasing products from a professional company.

• 90% of online shoppers who are ready to buy will want to pay for their order with their credit card. If you can't process credit card transactions in real time through your site then you may as well not even bother trying to sell online.

• Hire a customer support representative or professional virtual assistant from outsourcing company. They might be very helpful for your online business if you want to have a real-time transaction with the customers; have them monitor your web site, or make them do the credit card processing support and many more.

Be sure that before putting up an online market place business, conduct some research and familiarize yourself from the industry. Observing companies within your desired business field will definitely assist you for an easier online business strategy to success.
