Infertility and Acupuncture doesn’t seem to jive when you first hear about it due to the fact that Infertility treatments are usually products of modern medicine, while acupuncture traces its roots way back to ancient china. Infertility is a serious issue for most couples who have tried and tried yet failed to no avail. This is where the unconventional methods of acupuncture enter the picture. It has proven itself worthy of being an efficient partner in infertility treatments with a very high success rate.
Acupuncture is defined as the method of controlling very fine needles and inserting them in different points on the body. These points, when inserted with needles, are believed to reduce pain and also provide the body with a soothing, therapeutic effect. This is because acupuncture is a form of physical therapy. It regulates the body by regulating the body’s blood flow and the body’s hormone levels. Hormonal imbalance, one of the reasons for a person’s infertility, is avoided.
There are times when acupuncture is actually required before a patient is allowed to enter the next phase of the treatment. It is because of the healing process acupuncture gives the patient, making it even easier for the other procedures to take full effect. Such as in the case of a patient about to undergo IVF, acupuncture is a prerequisite to the process. Acupuncture gives the treatment a higher success rate of ending up in pregnancy.
Other infertility complications which could be cured by the help of acupuncture are spasmed tubes, elevated follicle stimulating hormone or FSH, miscarriage, unexplained infertility, luteal phase defect, hyperprolactinemia, and polycystic ovarian syndrome or PCOS. These are all conditions concerning women. Acupuncture helps in the treatment of sperm-DNA-fragmentation; one of the few infertility conditions concerning men.
Acupuncture does not work overnight. It requires a certain amount of time for the body to adjust and undergo the process of healing. This is why a doctor prescribes acupuncture months before a procedure is about to be done to a patient. This will make the patient ready for the procedure and acupuncture will also help in the efficiency of the treatment. In in vitro fertilization, three to four months of acupuncture is necessary before entering the procedure. Other treatments require the acupuncture after the procedure to make the healing process faster.
Acupuncture is really safe and budget-friendly. To avoid complications, it is suggested that the acupuncturist you’re getting is familiar with different kinds of infertility treatments or is aware of the relation between infertility treatments and acupuncture. A kind of acupuncture also works as a painkiller for pregnancy labor. This is called electro-acupuncture. It also helps in speeding up the healing process, shortening the stay in the hospital. Thus, saving a lot of money.
The most important effect of acupuncture for the infertility issue is the way it relieves a person of stress, anxiety and depression. All these are experienced by couples with infertility problems. Acupuncture helps them relax because sometimes, stress is the reason why conceiving is not possible.
