Hammocks have been around for awhile and for good reason: They are durable and light, as well as easy to transport and store away. They are an effective way to sleep protected from motion in rough seas, and from biting insects and snakes on land. Large hammocks wrap around you, providing comfort and protection, and when used correctly, freedom from the worry of falling out. The use of spreader bars in large hammocks provides a wider area on which to leisurely relax.
Research first completed in the 19th century credits Alcibiades, an Athenian politician with the invention of the hammock. Alcibiades owned a galley with a rope -suspended bed as described by Plutarch in the 1st century*. Greeks of the 1st century were already aware of the hammock’s seagoing potential! The hammock’s versatility is ideal for travel, home use, or any place a comfortable bed is needed. The hammock is light and can be backpacked to any destination and easily stowed away to keep limited space clear.
Large hammocks are a fun way to spend leisure time without the hassle of having to set up bulky equipment. Once the original attachments to the anchor points are finished, the hammock can easily be clipped into them and unclipped for removal, leaving the area free of clutter. A hammock can be set up by the pool, ocean, campground, or in the backyard, it doesn’t matter. Enjoy the lighter- than -air feeling of being suspended above the ground, allowing a nice escape from earthly worries!
If you enjoy camping, backpacking, biking cross country or travel of any kind, a hammock is an affordable portable bed and recliner. In the jungle a specialized hammock with mosquito netting and a rain fly is pretty much mandatory because the rain saturated earth and the presence of biting insects and other animals. With the right hammock you can stay high and dry between the trees. Hammocks fitted with mosquito netting are fantastic for less exotic camping as well, providing an adventurous change from the tent alone. Kids love hammocks; they are fun to play and swing on.
Hammocks are ideal for their versatility and simplicity; they are generally light and use fewer materials than traditional sleeping apparatus, which makes the hammock an eco-friendly product as well. With the right straps they can be hung almost anywhere, even on cliff faces! Why not utilize the time- tested and useful hammock for yourself? With a large hammock you can have fun and enjoy life!
