So how can you buy a cheap engagement ring as inexpensively as possible without getting ripped off?
Here are a couple of quick and easy tips that you can follow.
The first thing is, should you buy online or offline, right?
Should you go online or should you go to your local jewelry store? Well, here's why I think buying online is a good idea; first of all the price.
Think about it; if you go to your local jewelry store, you're going to pay a much higher price for the same right. Why? Because the local jewelry store, has to pay for real estate, the taxes, and the advertisement, where the online store doesn't have to pay for the real estate, the taxes are much lower, and in terms of advertisement, well, online it's a lot cheaper.
Since you want to save money and you know what you're looking for, online might be a good idea. Now, some people might say yeah but online you don't have the ring in your hand and you could get scammed.
That's true, so here's one thing that you might want to consider if you're buying online. Make sure that you buy from an established online jewelry store. And how can you know that? Well, the first thing you can do is you can look at the Better Business Bureau; the BBB. The second thing you could do is buy from a known jeweler.
Most of the popular jewelry stores also have an online store, so that's something to do. Another thing you can do is buy with your credit card; you're always protected. You can always check on your credit card company, but most of the time since they want you to purchase and to use your credit card, they will have a protection for you.
The second thing is make sure that the company you're buying for has a good return policy. For example, you order a diamond ring and you get it and you look at it, and you go that's not what I want. Then you can return it for no fee or a minimal fee.
Now I'm going to give you tips that you can use to either buy online or offline; it doesn't really matter.
The first thing is you can buy one ring with lots of small diamonds. But you can buy one ring with a Solitaire setting, basically there's one big diamond in the middle, but you can surround the diamond with a lot of smaller diamonds and that's a lot cheaper but it looks fabulous. It is as if you have one huge diamond, when in fact it's one diamond and a lot of smaller diamonds around it. That's one way to save money.
The second thing you can do is look at the carat.
What is the carat? The carat basically is a unit of measure for the weight of the diamond. So, the bigger the diamond, the bigger the amount of carats it is worth, and normally it is expressed as points so one carat, two carats.
A trick that nobody knows is the following: let's say you've seen a gorgeous diamond ring, right?
And its one carat, but it's kind of expensive. So what you do is you ask the jeweler to give you the next lowest amount of carat possible.
So normally it would be .95; it could be .97 but most of the time it's going to be .95. So it's the same ring, the same setting, but the diamond is a little bit smaller. It's .95 carat instead of one carat.
With the naked eye you won't really see the difference, but you will pay a lot less. So that's one cool trick you can use.
Another thing you could do is if you have a ring in your family, a diamond ring in your family, you could take the diamond out and buy a new ring, or vice a versa. If you already have the ring, then you only have to buy the diamonds; that's a way to save some money.
Now some people say what about the fake diamonds? Should I buy fake diamonds? Well, that's a trend that's gaining in popularity. If you're going to buy fake diamonds, you might want to buy a cubic zirconia diamond.
Why? Because really they are the most beautiful fake diamonds. And the cool thing about this is you could, if you buy a fake diamond, well you have a bigger stone than if you would have bought a real diamond.
Now, there are a couple of things that I want you to know so you don't get scammed.
The first thing is the color diamonds.
Color diamonds are the diamonds that are blue, or green, or yellow, or pink, or whatever.
The reality of it is that they are really, really, really rare. We call those naturals. Naturals are diamonds that naturally made of colors. This will happened based on the environment and the minerals that were around it when they were created in the earth.
Now, the makers of diamonds know that people would love to have a colored diamond, so they came up with artificially ways to color the diamonds.
The problem with that is they won't tell you. Some of them won't tell you; they'll call them naturals or they won't say anything, but in fact they will sell you a high priced diamond ring when in fact it should be sold less because it's basically a low quality diamond that has been colored.
The other thing they won't tell you is that when it is an artificial color that has been added to the diamond, it will wear out after a while; it will go away.
So if you're going to buy a colored diamond, first make sure that it's cheap; don't pay a high price for it. If somebody says, oh this is a natural colored diamond and I'm going to sell it to you at a discount, run; it means he's going to scam you.
