The symptoms of anxiety attacks are numerous and varied. They can include the body and your emotions. Some symptoms associated with the body may be exhaustion, chronic fatigue or the general feeling of being worn out and ready for sleep at any time.
They go on to include, flushing of the face or possible paleness. Chest pain or tightness is a common complaint associated with these attacks.
Unusual food cravings, primarily of sweets is common or a loss of appetite. Opposed to fatigue, you can also feel as if you are ready to conquer the world and cannot relax or sleep. Nausea, vomiting, pounding heart, pain in the head or tightness in the back area of the neck are symptoms as well.
Each of the body parts mentioned can have it's own series of symptomology. Your head may feel itchy, you can be dizzy or lightheaded. Shoulder or neck pain can be present as well as pains shooting into your face or neck. The feeling that you have a toothache is also common.
Your chest can feel tight, you are unnecessarily concerned about a heart attack or other cardiac problem. Occasionally you can feel pounding of your heart and accompanying tightness in the chest. Breathing may also feel difficult.
The emotional symptoms are just as varied and just as common. You may become overly concerned about what other people may think of you. A feeling of being overwhelmed or being trapped in a situation that you have no control over. On the flip side you can have a fear of losing that control or a sense of impending doom. If you feel like you are losing your mental stability, that is not unusual. Part of losing control gives the feeling that death is imminent or you are losing your mind. These emotional symptoms can also cause you to hyper-ventilate which will lead to a feeling of lightheadedness or feeling dizzy.
One symptom can lead to another. The emotional symptoms can lead to physical symptoms and it works as well the other way around. The physical symptoms can lead to unnecessary concerns about your health and well-being.
Depression, mood swings, constant anger or feeling that life is unreal or more like a dream are not to be discounted, as they are quite common. Losing interest in things that you enjoyed at one time or things you used to do can cause the feeling of depression. Constant fright or unrealistic fears can be evident. If you suddenly cry without cause or lose your temper without cause, it could be another symptom.
You may experience skin problems. Such things as itchy or burning skin or even numbness can occur. Numbness may be a side effect of hyper-ventilating and with relaxation breathing, the numbness can potentially go away.
Often you may have difficulty sleeping. You may possibly fall asleep but be unable to stay asleep for any extended periods. Dreams that are unusual or bad can cause you to awake with a jolt. You may even hear sounds that intellectually you know do not exist.
The good news is that with proper treatment, you can eliminate many of the symptoms and overcome the anxiety.
