Acne is one of the most common skin problems affecting people worldwide and a general misconception is that acne affects only teenagers, but many are surprised to learn that adults also suffer from this same inconvenience. In actual fact it is probably more common than you thought with ninety percent of the world's population suffering with acne in one form or another during their lifetime.

Our bodies produce oil called sebum which is quite normal but sometimes we produce too much and this clogs the hair follicles which can be one of the causes of acne but excess oil is not the only cause nor does it mean that someone who has excess oil in their hair follicles will develop acne. Acne seems to be a condition that is not necessarily a natural one and something that past generations did not suffer with.

Although it is possible that clogged pores that cause acne might be due to the hormone changes every teenager faces or even from cosmetic products that have not been removed fully from the skin. Other factors can be responsible to, like the consumption of too much junk and reprocessed food, which is high in unhealthy sugars.

When people have more stubborn cases of acne it is left to a dermatologist to prescribe a stronger remedy which may require a longer period of use. Usually, follow-up visits will be necessary to that the acne is being cured without further intervention being required. Cleanliness is important, especially beneath the fingernails where germs and bacteria can be found and infect the already sensitive skin condition by scratching.

The problem comes about because most people do not realize that bacteria and germs cannot normally be seen by the naked eye and they believe if their nails look clean they are safe. It is for this very reason that anyone who suffers with acne should not touch their acne with their bare hands.

Research has shown that if your parents had acne, you'll probably have it as well and very few people have perfect skin, so it is a very common skin disorder among almost every single person.By far the biggest reason for acne is when a youth child enters into puberty and the change in hormone levels associated with that period.

Nevertheless it is still best to contact a skin specialist before you start any type of medication. If you are unsure about you own situation then contact your local dermatologist of family physician as the information provided here is for guidance only and not a replacement for the opinion of a medical professional.
