Betta fish are small, colourful, fresh water fish that do not require a large or expensive tank system and there fore are easy to keep at your home as a nice addition to any room without taking up too much space in an enormous and elaborate aquarium.

So if you are thinking about keeping Betta fish then you’ll need to know the three main options for housing which are vases, bowls and aquariums. Hopefully this easy and simple guide will help you reach a decision to which housing solution is the most suitable for you and your Betta Fish.

Space

When choosing what you will be using to house your Betta fish you have to take into consideration how much space the Betta Fish will need and how much space you have to use. Vases are used to house Betta fish when you buy them from the pet store and are a good space saving solution, they can be used by Betta fish for life and can be stored in the busiest houses. However if you have plenty of space then consider housing your Betta fish in an aquarium which will allow for multitudes of fish and will help the fish thrive through out their lives. If you are in between the two where you have some space but not unlimited then think about the classic fish bowl which can’t be placed as easily as a vase due to the awkward shape but takes up a lot less room than an aquarium.

Price and expense

Whether you have a free room or a free shelf you will have to take money into consideration. Vases are inexpensive making them easy to buy and replace if you are interested in sizing up or sizing down. Fish bowls are in a similar price bracket to vase with both housing options offering the exact same conditions for your fish. The most expensive of the three are aquariums, they range in size from being able to house one Betta fish to twenty, aquariums allow for more accessories such as water filters and heaters as they have flat sides unlike the curved sides of a vase or bowl.

Health and well being of the fish

All three solutions are able to house a Betta fish for life but it’s easier through the more expensive aquarium systems as you can easily attach water filters and water heaters to keep the Betta fish at a healthy room temperature whilst also keeping the water cleaner for no longer. However vases and bowls can accommodate for water filters or heaters due to the curved sides meaning it is hard to attach accessories though you can still keep a Betta fish in healthy waters, it will mean keeping the Betta fish in a warm room constantly at room temperature and changing the water frequently.
