The recession proof sub-sector of the media industry?

Generally speaking the recession hasn’t affected the video game industry in the same way that it has attacked other media industry. While the videogame industry still has a massive piracy problem (especially on the Nintendo DS console which was lacking many basic security features when it was released in 2006).

British companies were only mildly profitable throughout the 1980’s as generally speaking most companies took the slightly safer (but ultimately less financially rewarding) decision to develop games for Personal computers and British micro computers such as the Sinclair Spectrum, the ZX 81, The Dragon 32, The Amiga 500, The commodore 64, The Atari St and many more systems like these which while popular in the united kingdom of England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales and throughout Eurpean countries such as Spain, Portugal, Italy, Holland, Ireland, Belgium, Norway and Sweden, the far more profitable American and Japanese markets were being almost entirely dominated by the hardware giants Sega, Nintendo and Japanese Multi-National company NEC.

Nintendo would produce such consoles as Nintendo Entertainment System, The super Nintendo Entertainment system, The Nintendo Gamecube, The Nintendo 64 and the Nintendo Wii along with handheld systems such as the original Nintendo Game Boy, The Game Boy Color, The Game boy advance and the Nintendo Ds.

Sega would produce consoles such as the Sega Master System, The sega Megadrive (known as the Sega Genesis in the United States of America and Canada), The Sega Dreamcast, The Sega-Mega CD, The Sega 32X and the Sega Saturn aswell as handheld systems such as the Sega Game Gear and the Sega Nomad.

Nec were best known for producing computers such as the Pc-88 and the Pc-98 before entering the console market with the Pc-Engine, they also released the SuperGrafx console before moving back into the Pc market with the release of the Pc-Fx which was a combination of a Pc and a console.

A video game programmer is somebody who programs games for a living. They generally work as part of a team but they may also work alone on small projects.
