When depending upon 'only' written text to convey their message a copywriter faces challenges unlike most anybody else. Strange as it is copy writing is typically use for the singular purpose of persuading people to take a certain action. Without the ability to verbally communicate thoughts, ideas or opinions the person writing the sales copy has their work cut out for them. Creating content that will influence or persuade others obviously requires a certain writing skill. However forming the words and phrases that go into the sales copy is something that comes from 'within' the writer and is what makes their efforts so successful.

Here are 3 traits every copy writer needs when creating content for use to persuade others that will make their efforts easier and more effective.

Ability to Communicate

Channeling your thoughts and enthusiasm into universally understandable words is a talent. Using these words as a means to persuade people to take a specified action is an art! There is little question that a certain amount of writing skill is involved here, however it is translating thoughts into easily understood words that makes this skill so admirable.

Passion

Copy writing involves sharing your passion with the reader and it is this emotion that will likely motivate them to take action. If you lack the passion for what you write copy for, it will be difficult to find the right words and therefore be persuasive. The passion you have and your ability to share it is the key to how successful your sales copy will be.

Patience

You can not expect to simply 'attack' your reader with the directive that they need to purchase what it is you are writing about. You must patiently explain to them that you know why they are reading your copy and that you are there to help them. At this point you now take them through a 'process' that explains what you have to offer and how it will help their situation. Possessing the right amount of patience will give you the diligence to know when to apply pressure and when to simply 'back off'!

In order to be successful at what they do a copywriter does require a certain writing skill and that is for sure. Along with that however copy writing first involves generating the thoughts and/or feelings that are put into words and phrases. The ability to articulate these thoughts are the written results, but 'connecting' with the reader is a talent of the mind and not the pen. The 3 traits we reviewed above are necessary for a copywriter to posses so that they can more effectively convey their written message. The message starts somewhere and that origin is found within the writer. Without possessing these traits that message can not be effectively shared no matter what degree of writing skill someone may have.
