Having membership marketing a part of your online business strategy is easy but a very tricky business to get into. This is where you market your online products directly to members of website who either signed in to your newsletters, opt in list, previous customers, or to those people who are already in your mailing list.

Most often, internet marketers take it literally: they do hard selling instead. Yes, these people probably have joined your opt-in list or subscribed to your weekly newsletters but instead of doing subtle internet marketing, they overwhelm them with their email marketing materials. As a result, they either unsubscribe or they would ask to be taken out of the mailing list.

As internet marketers, we all know that these prospects are already our warm leads that only need a little prodding to finally get them to buy our online products. Doing business with them requires skills of subtlety and a little bit of psychology. We have to study them and find their weaknesses to be able to finally hit the target.

So how can we do effective membership marketing? Well for starters, we have to remember that these people don’t want to receive constant, unrelenting sales materials. Membership marketing is about building rapport and creating online relationships. Let us for once stay away from the rest of the heard. Start off by sending informative materials like e-books about products and articles related to your niche market.

Include your website and affiliate links. Do not include sales pitches in your initial contact with them. Remember to build relationship and not hard selling. Content rich articles, if they find it useful and informative can go viral initially to their friends and colleagues and eventually to their network as well.

Just add P.S. in your articles with a direct link to your website or affiliates. Offer time-sensitive promotions or offers for them to get your products or your affiliates’. You can send videos for them to watch. Videos nowadays are extremely popular. They are both informative and entertaining. It could either be just you sitting in front of your camera casually talking to them directly or if you have done seminars, you can use this to further your relationship with them.

You can also have your Powerpoint presentations converted into a video format and you can read along to provide audio for your material. The materials you can utilize for videos are endless. You can also update your members with the use of articles, blog posts, and forums. Another great way of doing membership marketing is by conducting seminars, webinars or teleseminars.

Along with this you can also do real-time interactive discussion with them. You can set aside a specific day in your week to talk to your members live. Let’s not forget the social network. Add them to your social network to further expand your own. It’s also helpful if you are trying to direct traffic to your website.

Most importantly do not overwhelm them with these materials. Send these sporadically because with membership marketing, timing is very important. Work your way up slowly. We have to take care of these members because getting them or having them sign up in our newsletters and opt in is hard enough.

We have to be subtle yet firm in our marketing materials sent out to them. Remember that in membership marketing, you are cultivating relationships and creating bonds. Once you have established relationship with your members, you can directly and intimately market your online products. You can make them your loyal customers who will surely purchase your next products, no questions asked.
