Diamonds. What could possibly be said about diamonds that have not been said? Diamonds, an allotrope of carbon are created deep underneath the surface of the earth-between eighty seven and 120 miles in the earth mantle- in scorching hot temperature. A perfect diamond is colorless but in most cases different defects will give the diamond a certain hue- yellow, brown, red and more. Most people, when they wear spectacular diamond necklaces or diamond earrings, do not realize that it took the diamond a long process to end up looking the way it does.

Diamonds are measured in carat units. A carat is about 1/5 of a gram. The world production of diamonds reached its peak in the early 1990s when about 100 million carats of diamonds were produced a year!

Even if you are not a huge diamond expert, you must have heart the term "four Cs" before. The four Cs according to which diamonds are appraised and priced are color, clarity, carat and cut. The level of the diamond’s clarity determines whether the diamond is clear or defected inside. The levels of clarity are as follows, from the clearest to the most flawed:

Clarity- This is the highest level of clarity. It means that the diamond is flawless both inside and outside, even under a microscope.

FL-Flawless - These stones have no imperfections inside or on the outside of the stone under 10X magnification.

IF-Internally Flawless - This score is given to diamonds with no visible internal flaws and only slight external blemishes. Nicks pits or girdle roughness, not on the table, which could be removed in re-polishing.

VVS1 , VVS2 - Very Slightly Imperfect - These stones have very, very small inclusions, which are extremely difficult to see under a loupe of 10X magnification.

VS1, VS2 - Very Slightly Imperfect - These stones have very small inclusions, which are slightly difficult to see under a loupe of 10X magnification.

SI1,SI2-Slightly Imperfect - These stones have inclusions, which are fairly easy to see under with a 10X magnification, and can be seen with the naked eye.

I1, I2, and I3-Imperfect - These stones have inclusions ranging from eye visible to very easily seen to the naked eye.

Fancy color diamonds are very rare and pricey. They mostly seen sported by the rich and famous, as is usually the case with setting very expensive trends. Most popularly fancy color diamond necklaces and rings that cost millions of dollars are seen on the red carpet. Another diamond trend that celebrities have been adopting lately is the rough diamond trend. Rough diamond pendants, rough diamond rings, bracelets, and much more are seen more and more often by celebs and sometimes even in your local mall and neighborhood. Rough diamonds, just like the sound, are real diamonds pre-polishing. While many people like the classic, clean and elegant diamond look, others will prefer the rough and natural looks of rough diamonds. Rough diamonds, just like polished diamonds, may come in a great variety of colors, from clear to yellow to brown and more.
