Talking of fishing, how can anyone forget Trout. Trout is the most commonly found fish around the world and is also the most fished for among fishermen and fishing enthusiast alike. Just like other kinds of fishes, there are different species of trout too, each with its own distinct characteristics.
Broadly speaking, there are seven different species of trout, most of which are found in North America.
Rainbow Trout- Rainbow trout is perhaps the most commonly found type of trout and is said to be a very good traveler. To start with, rainbow trout were found only in the western parts of the United States but now, it can be found in Alaska, Canada, Australia and even New Zealand. Rainbow trout is arguably the most beautiful of all trout species found in the world. The long red strip running on its back and the black spots on its body make for a very exotic appearance. If one talks about the food habits of the rainbow trout, then it is like a spoiled child. It is very choosy about the kind of food that it eats and therefore, selecting the right kind of bait for this species of trout is very important indeed.
Brown Trout- This species of trout is probably the least good looking amongst its species but is the most cunning one. Normal fly tactics that, otherwise work for all kinds of fish, fail to lure brown trout into the hook. Rather than using acrobatic techniques to escape the hook, it makes use of natural barriers underneath the water to entangle the line and thus free itself.
Other commonly found trout types are cutthroat trout, brook trout, bull trout, lake trout and golden trout. Most of these species of trout are found in Pacific, United States or Canada and Alaska region. When it comes to the sportiness of a trout and its ability to jump out of trouble with ease, the cutthroat trout takes the cake.
The cutthroat trout stands true to its name and gives immense competition to beginners as well as experts alike.
When it comes to catching trout, it is very important to select the right kind of bait for different species of trout, as it could make the difference between success and failure of your trout fishing expedition.
