With Southern California golf courses, you have a sunny, mild climate similar to that of the Mediterranean as well as marvelous scenery that ranges from desert to seashore. This, and the variety of levels available, make California public golf courses in particular the ideal places to enjoy a challenging game – or simply hone your basic golfing skills. Of course, Southern California golf courses aren't all this part of the Golden State has to offer. While golf may be one of the main attractions, you'll also find plenty of cycling, surfing (of course!), swimming and tennis venues as well.

The Private Golf Course Option

An Internet golf course search is likely to bring up a number of exclusive golf course-country club facilities. These facilities can be expensive, and normally, new members must be sponsored by an existing member. However, if you want more than just a golf course – if your golf course search includes tennis and swimming facilities as well as a place to eat and drink afterwards, this may be a good alternative to California public golf courses (which don't normally offer such amenities).

More On Southern California Golf Courses

A private golf course is generally for someone who practically lives on the green (and has the money and leisure time to do so – which is rare these days for those who actually have to work for a living). Those who are occasional or weekend golfers will find that California public golf courses will meet their needs just fine – and at a much lower cost. In fact, some of them are actually free (though you'll probably have to reserve golf tee times – California is just the same as everywhere else in this respect). Other courses are also available for a per-use fee – there's no long-term commitment required, which is not the case for the exclusive private clubs; these facilities expect you to remain a paid member for at least a year, though some offer temporary memberships (generally two weeks).

Golf Tee Times

California golf courses, whether public or private, have scheduled times at which you are expected to start your game, known as golf tee times. California vacationers should keep these in mind when planning their visit in order to get the maximum enjoyment from Southern California golf courses.
