Nothing has changed. The horses still have not faced each other let alone is there any plan for arranging a meeting at this time regardless of what their fans want to see. Why does this sound rather familiar? Because it seems that both boxing and horse racing have decided to ignore their fans when comes to what it is they want to see.

As for horse racing, what fans want to see is Zenyatta race against Rachel Alexandra and for almost an entire year that demand has not been met. While Zenyatta’s camp continues to claim that they would love nothing more than to race Rachel Alexandra, Rachel Alexandra’s people claim they would like to see the very same thing and more than once.

Not often does the sporting world see such eagerness paired with just as much avoidance. Zenyatta and Rachel Alexandra had been scheduled to race in Hot Springs, Arkansas at Oaklawn Park in April but even that plan has fallen through. Instead, Zenyatta was forced to race to victory on a rather overmatched field and winning at Oaklawn by over four lengths.

This leaves one question unanswered. Will the two champion horses ever meet on the racetrack? As for now that’s a very good question. There is a chance that they could and in more than just the November Breeder’s Cup at Churchill Downs.

On Saturday, Rachel Alexandra will race at New Jersey’s Monmouth Park in the $400,000 Lady’s Secret Stakes. From there, she will then prepare for her start in either the Woodward or the Personal Ensign Stakes at Saratoga.

If Zenyatta does in fact race in the Del Mar Clement Hirsch Stakes in August, then she will have four weeks to get ready for Woodward. What a site that race has to potential of being with Quality Road up against the two best females in the country.

Unfortunately, it won’t be a surprise if this does not happen as well. In the same way as boxers Mayweather and Pacquiao will find a way to avoid a match, horse racing will also find a way to elude what is best for the sport.

Saratoga is scheduled to begin its 142nd racing season this Friday. Racing will be held every day with the exception of Tuesdays all the way through September 6th. Will we ever see the two horses meet? Only time will tell.
