The US Border Patrol was founded as law enforcement agency under the Department of Labor nearly 85 years back. In order to check the illegal immigrant and to prevent smuggling they were placed in the southwestern border of the United States. Earlier it served under the Department of labor but later it came under the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). The tragic terrorist event of September 11, 2001, is greatly responsible for bringing the US Border Patrol under the Department of Homeland Security and it has broadened the scope of its services.

Today, with the threat of burgeoning human and drug trafficking, the Federal government has given lot of concern on the Border Patrol and is on the process to recruit many agents to increase the number and strengthen the position. Candidates who are interested in Border Patrol careers will have to undergo an exam and an extensive training program and it is only after the completion of the rigorous training the candidates will be offered to join this honored law enforcement group. Usually, the Border patrol jobs are geographically located in the border areas and so the selected candidates will be deployed in any of the border locations.

Life as a Border Patrol agent is really lively and interesting. Especially for those who love traveling can enjoy a lot in this career. During the term of service, the agents will have to live in several different border locations. The agents need not get stuck to a same place. Border Patrol Careers are not only challenging but it is also a great opportunity to serve the nation. Some of the most essential requirements to make a career in Customs and Border Patrol are the followings:

  • The candidate must be a U.S. citizenship.

  • The candidate must not have any conviction of Domestic Violence.

  • Residency requirement - Candidates must be a US resident for at least three (3) years.

  • The candidate must have a valid driving license at the time of appointment.

  • Age requirement - Candidate must not be over 40 years of age at the time of appointment.

  • The candidate must pass the medical exam and drug testing.

  • The candidate must have physical fitness.

Border Patrol Career is more than a job, and above all it requires firm dedication, average skill and superior character. The U.S. Border Patrol agents are always making their full effort to prevent illegal entry and drugs into the U.S.
