It is hard to follow a diet plan when no one is there to keep tabs on you.

I find that if no one knows I am on a new diet, I cheat and eat a cookie, or grab a handful of Skittles, and don`t think twice about it.

Then, when my weight doesn`t budge, I know why, but no one else knows that I tried to diet, cheated, and failed.

While those treats may have tasted great when I was indulging in them, I get so disappointed when I start a new diet, cheat, and don`t get any positive results. In the end, I am really only letting myself down.

After doing this dieting loop a few times, I decided I needed a change to make sure that I stuck to my next diet plan.

I decided to enlist my friend to keep tabs on me, and even made a bet about how much weight I would lose each month. If I won, she would treat me to our monthly movie date, and if she won, I would treat her.

By having someone else know that I was dieting, and that I had a weight loss goal, it really kept me on track.

Each time I would debate buying a box of cookies at the grocery store, or grab a handful of Skittles while at work, I would think about how embarrassed I would be if I didn`t make my weight loss goal that month (not to mention the money I would have to spend on my movie date!)

As each month went by, and I successfully hit all of my weight loss goals, I was elated. It felt so proud of myself for staying on track, and having someone else excited for my success felt great too.

If you find you have trouble keeping yourself on task, try asking a friend or family member for help. It can be inspiring and motivational to know someone else cares about your goals. Even better, you can lose weight together!
