Don't you think acne are often difficult to handle? They say it happens only during puberty, but you'll see it stays long after your teenage days are gone. None of the acne treatment so far is able to work all the time without fail. If you have a bit of curiosity, you should've asked why.

No wonder that was the case, because there are a lot of myths out there. Below are top 3 myths surrounding acne, and why they are just myths.

This one is common. You probably heard it already. Dirt is the cause of acne. This is not true.

Dirt does not cause acne. Contrary to what people believe, pores are not blocked from the outside. Acne formation starts from the inside, deep within the skin. Excessive production of oil and shedding of skin block the follicle, which turns into acne. Washing can never go inside the pores whether they are blocked or not.

In many cases, washing your face too often will cause irritation and often make the acne condition worse. By all means cleanse your skin twice daily, but it does not help prevent or treat acne.

Other people believe that certain kind of foods cause acne. This is the second myth.

Acne triggers and causes are two completely different things. Certain foods may trigger acne but so far there is no direct correlation between certain type of foods with acne.

Healthy lifestyle and diet are known to have a positive impact, but don't avoid certain foods or you'll end up with a few choices. A better approach is to understand the real cause and try to deal with that.

Otherwise, you will end up with nothing to eat.

Sun can help get rid of acne. Have you ever heard of that third myth? I bet you have. Sun burn is actually skin damage. When your skin is exposed to the sun, it may make acne even worse because the sun causes irritation.

Skin may break out and heal after sun exposure, but that doesn't mean the acne will go away. In fact that may backfire.
