Oahu is the most developed island in the Hawaiian chain of islands. It is the third largest island and highly populated. From a very long time Oahu is known as "The Gathering Place". It is considered as a "centre" of all the Hawaiian Islands, all activities being centered at Oahu. Here visitors can get all that they want. Honolulu, the capital of Hawaii is in Ohua.

Oahu is a very popular tourist destination, not only because it has excellent panorama but also because it is comparatively cheaper and hence affordable by all. Tourists can avail the island-wide bus service instead of the costly rented cars. There is also a wide range of hotels available there.

Oahu is famous for its beaches and its wild seawater. The water crashes with such force that it produces huge sea waves that rise high in the sky giving a splendid show of nature. The Waikiki beach in Oahu is a one of the best beaches in the world and is a must-visit for tourists. The Diamond Head Crater is also a must-see if you come to Oahu. Hanauma Bay is best suited for snorkeling and Kailua beach for windsurfing.

The landscape of this island is a view to behold. Mountains rise from the coast to a height of almost 2000 ft. Colorful flowers adorn these mountains and let out a sweet fragrance that soothes the mind. Waterfalls sparkle in the sunlight while the dense tropical forests provide ample opportunities for trekking.

Oahu is a paradise for hikers. There is no better way to taste the wilderness of the island than by hiking. Either you hike individually or by booking a tour with any of the hiking companies in the island. One should also have a look at the ancient temples of the Hawaiian culture; this would give one an idea of the Hawaiian history.

For surfing one should head to the North Shore, more specifically the town of Haleiwa. It is a very funky town filled with colorful surf shops, art galleries, food joints serving Hawaiian delicacies etc. The surfing season is during the winter when North Shore becomes the hub of all surfers. One can also go for an underwater tour in a submarine to experience the blue waters of the Pacific Ocean rich with marine life and beautiful corals.

The list of offerings that Oahu has for visitors is never-ending. It is undoubtedly one of the best places to "gather" at.
