For most people, traveling to the popular cities of Europe or to the ancient lands of the Middle East are common destinations. But if you’re looking for a bit more variety on your next holy land tours excursion, consider booking a week’s stay in the ancient and enthralling country of Ethiopia.
Ethiopia, located in the North Eastern section of the African continent, is a sight to behold. This ancient country has it all, from towering mountains such as the Simien Mountain range to deep, canyon floors. It’s here that Adam and Eve lived, and it’s also home to the oldest fossil remains of mankind. In fact, Ethiopia has been inhabited by 3,000 years of modern culture.
Though Ethiopia might seem far away, in reality it’s not. With the majority of European and Middle East cities offering daily flights to this ancient African country, you won’t be more than five or six hours away. Getting around the country is not difficult either. You can rent a car or choose to traverse the land by bus though renting a car offers you much greater flexibility. Just make sure to carry a well-marked map.
If seeing the most of what nature has to offer is your idea of an unforgettable vacation, you’ve come to the right place. In Ethiopia, you’ll have your choice of stunning national parks. A favorite is the Gambela National Park, a huge safari where you’ll see animals such as zebras, lions and elephants roaming freely among the vegetation and open ranges. Another not to miss park is the Omo National Park, known for its thrilling white-water rafting experience and thousands of multi-colored birds.
If you’re a history buff, don’t pass up a visit to the ancient city of Gondar. Here, you’ll see amazing castles and ruins from hundreds of years ago, unlike any other around. In just one area you’ll walk among five different castles, amongst other archeological sites. And no visit to the ancient face of Ethiopia is complete without visiting the town of Lalibela. In Lalibela, you’ll see 800 year old churches that have been carved into the mountains. Even today, the locals pray in these ancient places of worship.
Once in Ethiopia, you’ll want to come back time and time again.
