An increasing awareness of the negative impact that cars and other forms of mechanical transport is making on the environment is causing many people to consider alternative forms of transport and alternative forms of fuel. Similarly, other green initiatives, such as using softcopy electronic data, rather than hardcopy paper printing, are becoming increasingly popular.

A decrease in the number of vehicles on the road would make a difference in global warning, and the levels of pollution in our cities, but it’s not as simple as just giving up your car. There are many easy ways to reduce your carbon footprint, and even save some money in the process. For example, those with a daily car commute to work can consider a car pool. To share the cost, members of the car pool could rotate their driving duties once a month, or more frequently as desired. This will help you to save petrol, driving stress and help the environment at the same time.

Consider alternative fuels for your vehicle, such as LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas), which emits less carbon dioxide and air pollutants and is now freely available in the UK, or buy a hybrid car if you can. Public transport is the perfect option and uses much less fuel per passenger than a private car does. This has the added benefit of reducing congestion on the roads, so when you do need to take your car, there will be fewer traffic jams and more parking available. It is also cheaper than taking a car.

Another way to reduce your carbon footprint is to rely on electronic data and to refrain from printing out emails or any other documents unless absolutely necessary. To ensure that this becomes a viable option both at home or the office, you need a reliable computer hard drive. Yet in the event of a hard drive malfunction, or a computer crash, then it also helps to be aware of all the ways to go about retrieving electronic information stored on a hard drive that is not easily accessible.

Various data recovery software packages and programs are available to allow you to retrieve any electronic data and go a long way to establish the viability of green home and office practices.
